Who can use it
Holders of a Platinum Card issued by American Express in Germany (American Express Europe S.A., Germany Branch) or in Austria (Austrian Branch). The main cardholder must sign up. Payments with a Plus Card do not count. Platinum Cards issued in other countries have a dining credit of their own, at an amount set by the country that issued the card. A US-issued Platinum Card is the exception: it has no Global Dining Credit, and its Resy statement credit applies only at qualifying U.S. restaurants on Resy and Tock. How to use it
- Sign your card up: in Germany, once, through Amex Offers; in Austria, once, at amex.at/Platinum/gourmet. Without it, nothing is credited.
- Choose a participating restaurant. Our lists by city help you find one; American Express's own list is the one that counts, and it can change, so check the restaurant before you book.
- Pay for the food and drink at the restaurant with your Platinum Card, at its card terminal — in Germany, with the main card. Payments through PayPal or a payment service such as SumUp do not count, nor in Austria by QR code or through the restaurant's app.
- The credit arrives on your card account by itself: in Germany usually within 7 to 10 working days, in Austria usually within 30 working days.

When it does not apply
No credit is given for vouchers and gift cards, prepayments, cancellation and no-show fees, takeaway or delivery, or foreign-currency fees. Unused credit expires at the end of the period and is not paid out.
Pay well before the period ends: the restaurant must have submitted the payment to American Express by then. In Germany, the credit ends if you switch to another card product.
Where to use it
The credit works at every participating restaurant, not only at home: on a German card, in Germany and abroad from the same amount; on an Austrian card, from a separate amount for Austria and for abroad. We list 2,798 participating restaurants in 17 countries. Every restaurant on the map.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Amex dining credit in Germany?
Up to €150 a year on a Platinum Card issued in Germany (the Restaurantguthaben), at participating restaurants in Germany and abroad. On a Platinum Card issued in Austria it is the Gourmet-Gutschrift: each half-year, up to €90 in Austria and up to €90 abroad, so up to €360 a year.
How do I activate the Restaurantguthaben?
In Germany, the main cardholder activates the offer once in Amex Offers, and that covers the whole offer period. In Austria, you register the main card once at amex.at/Platinum/gourmet; you do not need to register again.
Do I need to activate the Restaurantguthaben again for 2027?
In Germany, yes: the offer runs to 31 December 2026 and renews automatically, but it must be activated again in Amex Offers from 1 January 2027. In Austria, the Gourmet-Gutschrift renews each half-year without registering again.
Does the German dining credit work abroad?
Yes. On a German Platinum Card the same amount of up to €150 works at participating restaurants in Germany and abroad. An Austrian card has a separate amount for it: up to €90 each half-year at restaurants outside Austria. We list 2,798 participating restaurants in 17 countries.
Do payments on a supplementary card count?
Not in Germany: only payments on the main Platinum Card count, not on supplementary cards or Plus Cards. In Austria, payments on a Platinum supplementary card count towards the registered main card.
When is the credit paid?
In Germany, usually 7 to 10 working days after the payment is booked, in some cases up to 150 days. In Austria, usually within 30 working days. It arrives on the main card's account by itself.
Which restaurants take it?
The restaurants on American Express's list: 261 in Germany and 143 in Austria, which we list by city, such as in Hamburg, München and Frankfurt am Main and in Wien, Salzburg and Graz. The list changes, so check the restaurant before you book.
What happens to credit I do not use?
It expires at the end of the period (in Germany on 31 December; in Austria on 30 June and 31 December) and is neither carried over nor paid out. The restaurant must have submitted the payment by then, so do not leave it to the last day.
